After completing a PhD in solar physics at Trinity College Dublin, Dr Murray worked at the Met Office, the UK’s national meteorological service. Collaborating with scientists, forecasters, policy makers, and end users, she transitioned basic science to operational space weather forecasting products. She is now a Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin and visiting Research Fellow at Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. She leads a number of international space weather forecasting coordination activities, and is also heavily involved in public engagement and education. Personal website: drsophiemurray.com
Dr Murray’s research interests are focused on better understanding the solar source of space weather events in order to improve predictions of their impact on Earth. She has experience in a range of space weather disciplines, from solar flare forecasting, to solar wind propagation, and thermospheric modelling. Dr Murray is currently focused on developing solar eruption warning and prediction tools using state-of-the-art techniques established by the terrestrial weather community. ORCID: 0000-0002-9378-5315
