Introduction:
The team focuses on understanding the geospace plasma dynamics through innovative modeling techniques that go beyond the traditional continuum-based fluid approaches. By integrating kinetic simulations, such as particle-in-cell and hybrid codes, with advanced multi-fluid MHD models, the group aims to capture the multiscale and nonequilibrium processes in the geospace. Kinetic simulations present many challenges and opportunities, making it important for the modeling community to have a shared vision, tools, and a space for collaboration.
Objectives:
The main objective is to bridge the gap between traditional MHD models and particle-based kinetic approaches, fostering deeper insights into phenomena like reconnection, turbulence, and wave-particle interactions. The discussions on collaborative tools and new computational methods will help to establish best practices in understanding and incorporating kinetic effects in a larger geospace environment.
Action Topics:
Advance modeling capability of coupled geospace system, Understand and quantify sub-storms initiation and dynamics, Understand and quantify relative role of different magnetized solar wind plasma and field parameters on the generation of electric currents and energization of plasma in various regions of coupled geospace system
Cluster with overlapping topics:
H1: Heliospheric magnetic field and solar wind, G2B: Ionosphere variability, G3: Near-end radiation and plasma environment
