Introduction:
The Mars Radiation Environment team will focus specifically on radiation dose hazards and requirements throughout all mission phases. Experience from low Earth orbit (LEO) and cis-Lunar missions will help inform hazards, however, during transit astronauts will be exposed to higher radiation doses than in LEO and for longer periods of time than for cis-Lunar missions. The team will use all available radiation data sources and modeling to characterize the radiation environment throughout a mission, and also assess nowcasting and forecasting models.
