INPE counts on more than 700 permanent personal public employees and other 1500 temporary staff.

It is a full governmental agency supported mainly by the Brazilian Government but also for several agencies.

INPE is responsible for the execution of the Brazilian Space Program.

INPE also holds along with several down-stream activities such as the Numerical Weather for the whole of South America, the Earth Observation of Amazon Deforestation, and especially the Space Weather Monitoring and Forecasting.

INPE also serves as an advisor to the National Committee for Legal Amazon (connected to the Vice-President of the Republic of Brazil) and the National Space Committee (connected to the President of the Republic of Brazil).
